fashion on the ration

My favorite era is the 1940s, and I adore fashion from before, during, and just after World War II. Some time ago I heard about the book Fashion on the Ration: Style in the Second World War by Julie Summers. The problem was that it was only available in the UK, and so my library (which is my primary source for reading material) was unable to purchase a copy.

However, I have a friend – let’s call her Holly – who gifted me with a $25 credit to Amazon for my birthday.

GUESS WHAT I USED IT ON.

I do have some library books which are close to being due, so I haven’t had time to do more than open this and squeal, but I’m quite excited about delving into it!

I am particularly excited because, although I do not make New Year’s Resolutions, my general goal for this year is to finally clean out my closet, and I’m only allowing myself to purchase items which I’ve already listed as being in need of / wardrobe holes from my closet inventory, or items that will need replacing (for instance, sneakers with bad soles would allow me to purchase a new set of sneakers). I think absorbing the “make do and mend” philosophy will assist me in this.

I can not stress enough how thrilled I am to get my hands on this book, and I hope it lives up to my expectations. I will let you know about it as I read through it.

And again, thank you, Holly!
